Ryan Dorsey has posted a heartbreaking message on social media: Emmy, the dog he shared with his late ex-wife Naya Rivera, has passed away. Ryan and their son Josey found Emmy peacefully gone after returning home from a baseball game one weekend.
Ryan Dorsey, 40, was married to Naya Rivera from 2014 to 2018. Their son, José, was born on September 17, 2015. Ryan shared a series of memories of Amy on social media, accompanied by Israel's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Kamakawaiuole.
Ryan recalled the moment they found Amy dead: “Jose and I came home from baseball opening day and found Amy in her last resting place, on the bathroom floor, next to her older sister Lucy. Her heart had done its best; she had lived a good life.” Amy was supposed to celebrate her 10th birthday this summer, but this weekend was undoubtedly difficult for Ryan and his family.
Ryan fondly recalled the first time he met Amy: “I remember the day we picked you up, we drove north of San Diego to meet you. You were the youngest in the litter, and the last one left behind. You already had an award name, so we didn’t even change it. You were Amy, also known as Emmetton Brown, also known as Sweetheart Amy.”
He remembered that when Amy first came to the family, the other dog, Lucy, didn't welcome her, but eventually accepted the little sister. Amy was a very gentle and quiet dog, and Ryan often took her to the filming set, where she would always stay quietly in the trailer, never making a sound.
Ryan called Amy his "road companion" and "emotional support animal," and they had traveled to many places together. He was grateful for all the love and hugs Amy had given him, and he hoped that Amy could be with her mother, Naya, on the other side of the rainbow, and that he would reunite with Amy in the future.
Naya Rivera, 33, drowned on July 8, 2020, while pedal boating on Lake Piru, California. Her body was recovered on July 13, and her funeral was held on July 24.
Naya's colleagues on Glee paid tribute to her last year by performing her single "Prayer For The Broken" in support of the nonprofit House of Alexandria. Colleagues who contributed to the single included Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz, Vanessa Langes, and Ashley Fink.
