Methods of training Belgian Malinois to search
First, extend your arm straight out in one direction and give a command to let the Malinois know that this is the direction to search. Second, in front of the Malinois, place the item on an obstacle within a few dozen steps, then return to the Malinois and use hand gestures and verbal commands to guide it to search. Third, reward the Malinois when it retrieves the item. Fourth, gradually expand the search area.
