According to students familiar with the situation, on November 28th, a black-and-white stray cat named "Xiaoxiao" (as named by students) that had long lived in dormitory building 21 of Huazhong Agricultural University was found dead with its limbs bound with duct tape. This news quickly spread across campus, with some students expressing shock and anger, and many sending complaint emails to the university to report the issue.
A female student surnamed Huang from the school told a reporter from Changjiang Cloud News that some students had been summoned by the school, but the specifics were unclear. She also stated that several incidents of stray cats and dogs being abused and killed have occurred recently around South China Agricultural University, and many stray animals have mysteriously disappeared, causing great distress to some animal-loving students.
“We usually care a lot about the stray animals on campus; they are like our friends.”
The students expressed that these stray animals had lived there for a long time and had become part of the campus ecosystem, bringing much joy and companionship to teachers and students. However, it was unacceptable that they were now facing such cruel treatment.
Reporters learned that some students on the South China Agricultural University campus are responsible for feeding stray cats on campus, monitoring their whereabouts, and trying their best to provide them with a safe and warm living environment.
