Recently in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, a netizen posted a video claiming that a hairless cat had its back tattooed and earrings pierced by its former owner, which has attracted widespread attention.
The cat in the picture has tattoos all over its back and around its eyes. It's understood that hairless cats have only thin, soft downy fur on their ears, mouth, nose, the tip of their tail, and paws; the rest of their bodies are hairless, and their skin is wrinkled and elastic. They are gentle, independent, non-aggressive, and can get along with other cats and dogs.
The current owner, Ms. Yun, said that her friend saw the cat being sold by a cat dealer. The cat had a large tattoo on its back and its ears were constantly inflamed from the earrings. "With such a large tattoo, this cat must have suffered a lot. Its ears were pierced and were always inflamed and swollen. I felt so sorry for it, so I quickly brought it home."
According to a 2021 report by China News Weekly, an investigation across multiple e-commerce platforms revealed that some vendors offer tattoo services for hairless cats. A reporter contacted a tattoo artist offering this service, who charged 1,000 yuan per hour and 30,000 yuan for a full-body tattoo. He stated that his own cat also has tattoos, and that tattooing cats showcased his skills better than tattooing people.
The tattoo artist said, "This cat isn't expensive, but the tattoo has to be done right on this cat, so the cat becomes expensive. It's so much easier for us to tattoo people. We tattoo it because we like it, because we want to express something through it."
When pressed on whether the cat would feel pain, the tattoo artist initially said there would be no pain after the anesthesia, but later changed his tune, saying, "It's impossible for it to be completely painless, and there are certain risks involved."
The tattoo artist also claimed that hairless cat skin is more difficult to tattoo than human skin. After using anesthetic, the cat's skin is very soft, and not everyone can tattoo it; only good tattoo artists can do it. "I tattoo cats to become famous and prove that my skills are superior to others, and that not everyone can do it."
In response, netizens commented, "Tattooing and earring a cat? This isn't just a lack of love, it's abuse!", "Such a large area, how painful must it be!", "Such a large tattoo, it was probably done by numbing the cat with anesthesia!", "Some people are terrified of the pain of tattooing themselves, why would they tattoo animals?"
