Its fate was like a roller coaster, going from despair to hope all the way up, and then sliding all the way down to the bottom.
In a corner of Chengdu, Sichuan, there once was a stray dog wandering around.
Fortunately, it was found by a kind-hearted rescue volunteer. After careful care and treatment, and with everyone's joint efforts, the dog gradually recovered, and its eyes became bright and lively again.
Seeing it gradually recover, the volunteers felt that all their efforts were worthwhile.
However, the rescue was not the last step. Finding an adopter for the dog and giving it a warm home was the next issue the volunteers needed to consider.
At that time, the rescue center was under great pressure. The adoption rate of the animals could not keep up with the pace of the volunteers' rescue efforts. In fact, it was considered a great achievement if anyone came to adopt them.
Under these circumstances, a young woman expressed her desire to adopt the dog. Soon after registering the necessary information, she took the dog home.
Everyone thought the dog would live a happy and peaceful life from then on. However, things took an unexpected turn. The volunteers were so angry they wanted to cry whenever they thought about it.
About a month later, the volunteers received a request for help. A dog, suspected of being abused, had been found lying unconscious in the bushes by a roadside.
When the volunteers arrived at the scene, they were stunned—it was the little stray that had just been adopted!
The dog had a large wound on its head, clearly caused by abuse. Without hesitation, the volunteers immediately took the dog to the hospital for emergency treatment.
After examination, the dog's condition was not optimistic. It had mouth ulcers, intracranial injury, heart and kidney failure, and its body was covered with wounds. It also had parvovirus infection.
The most serious issue was intracranial hemorrhage, which was the main cause of the dog's coma. The veterinarian stated that craniotomy was necessary to save the dog's life.
However, the surgery was expensive, and the small medical facility couldn't afford it immediately, and crowdfunding wasn't something that could be done quickly either.
Therefore, we can only provide conservative treatment for now, at least to maintain the dog's vital signs.
Meanwhile, the volunteers contacted the adopter and asked why the dog was found in the bushes with serious injuries. Did she, as the owner, not know anything about it?
The adopter was very indifferent. She gave a perfunctory answer on the phone, saying that the dog had been missing for two days and she didn't know what had happened. Then she refused to show up, citing being busy with work.
Later, a friend of the adopter came to the hospital, and the first thing he asked was if the dog was dead. He then said that the dog was already in such a state that there was no point in trying to save it, and advised the volunteers to give up on treatment.
But how could the volunteers give up? They had watched it recover little by little, become happy and lively, and transform from a disheveled creature into a little angel!
Seeing the other party's attitude, the volunteer, clinging to the last glimmer of hope, said, "Even if we don't know why the dog is like this, it's so badly injured now, at least donate some money for its treatment!"
The other party remained completely unmoved, showing a completely indifferent attitude during the crowdfunding campaign.
The volunteers were extremely angry and disappointed by the adopter's behavior, suspecting that the dog had been abused by the adopter and her boyfriend. While trying to raise money for medical expenses, they reported the incident to the police.
The adoptive parents, like rats whose tails had been stepped on, flew into a rage in the group chat, hurling insults and even threatening to fight offline—a truly despicable act.
However, due to the current lack of relevant laws and regulations, it is impossible to clearly punish adoptive parents, and the police can only give them verbal warnings in the end.
It's heartbreaking, but there's nothing we can do. We hope the dog can pull through and that a miracle will happen.
