At first, he thought the dog was sleeping, but sleeping on the roadside was too dangerous, so he called to it, but the dog didn't respond. That's when he realized the dog was dead. While saddened, he knew he couldn't just leave, so he went back to his office, grabbed a box, and put the dog inside.
Lacking the necessary tools, the man could only leave the dog by the roadside to prevent further injury and to avoid leaving it to die in the wild, thus giving the dog a dignified final rest.
