Maternal love is something everyone knows. Most mothers are incredibly devoted to their children, willing to do anything for them, even sacrifice their own lives. Therefore, we often use the word "great" to describe maternal love—selfless, unconditional, and solely for the good of their children. In fact, this isn't just true for humans; animals are the same. They are willing to do anything for their offspring. A mother's love softens her demeanor, but it also makes her more resilient.
For example, cats and dogs, which we often see in our lives, may seem mischievous at times, but they become very reliable after having their own kittens. Even aloof and proud cats can become incredibly maternal after having kittens. Even cats can possess unwavering love. There was a cat in South Korea that displayed a particularly touching maternal love. Even with its neck caught in a fishing net, it insisted on feeding its kittens, but this was heartbreaking because its kittens were also caught in the net, hanging from its neck.
This video, posted on a social media site by a local, shows a calico cat searching for food in a garbage dump. Something is wrapped around its neck – a tattered fishing net. Below its neck is a kitten, walking unsteadily. Upon closer inspection, it turns out the kitten is also caught in the fishing net; the mother and kitten are entangled together.
Because the fishing net was tangled around them, the kittens couldn't walk normally and had to be dragged along by their mother. This was very distressing for the kittens, as they were not only tangled but also being dragged, causing them to cry out in pain. However, the mother cat couldn't free herself from the net. The person who filmed the incident, after witnessing the situation, called an animal rescue organization for help.
Why did the cat get tangled in the fishing net? Because this is a fishing village where the residents make a living by fishing and frequently catch seafood, hence the use of fishing nets. For stray cats, these nets are excellent food sources, and they scavenge for food when the residents aren't using them. That's why this cat got tangled.
The kitten was most likely entangled because it was caught in the net while being affectionate, and the struggle only made the net tighter. The person who filmed the video said they knew the cat well, having seen it a year ago when they rescued it from the fishing net. However, because it was a stray and wary of people, they couldn't just untangle all the netting and run away, which is why this happened.
Both cats received timely medical attention. The things wrapped around the mother cat's body and the kittens' necks were removed. The mother cat's wounds were deep because of the long time she had been wrapped, but she would recover with proper care. The kittens, although they had wounds on their necks, were otherwise healthy. It's amazing how the mother cat managed to raise her kittens so well under those circumstances. Kudos to her great maternal love!
