Arowanas have a lifespan of around 18 years. Providing them with artificial light is beneficial for enhancing their color. The ideal water quality for arowanas is soft, slightly acidic to neutral, with ample oxygen. The quality of an arowana can be quickly determined by its pearl scales; an arowana with fully bright pearl scales is definitely a good choice.
Lifespan of Arowana
Golden arowanas have a relatively long lifespan, generally around 18 years. They thrive in water around 28 degrees Celsius and primarily feed on animal-based foods such as fish, shrimp, and loach, but they can also eat artificial feed.
Using artificial light is a common method to enhance the color of arowanas. While arowanas already display golden scales even without artificial light, the added light makes them appear even more golden and increases their ornamental value. For blue-based arowanas, high-intensity or blue lights are more effective, while yellow lights are ideal for common arowanas.
It is best to keep arowanas alone. After they reach adulthood, ensure they have sufficient oxygen, maintain slightly acidic to neutral water quality with soft water hardness, and provide them with high-protein food. This will allow them to live a long life and even reach a body length of nearly 90cm.
The quality of an arowana can be judged by its pearl scales. A golden arowana with fully bright pearl scales is a better choice than one with only half of its pearl scales shining. Such a golden arowana will definitely perform well in the future.
