Macaws are the largest parrots and have a long lifespan, ranging from 65 to 70 years or even longer. Macaws are generally fed millet, fruits, and vegetables. They require a lot of exercise and need to be taken out of their cages daily. In winter, the ideal ambient temperature for macaws is above 15 degrees Celsius.
Lifespan of a macaw
Generally, the lifespan of parrots is positively correlated with their size. Macaws are large parrots and the largest parrots, so they have a long lifespan, reaching about 65 years or even more than 70 years, while small parrots such as lovebirds only live for a dozen years or so.
But whether it's a large or small parrot, the feeding methods are similar. Macaws can usually eat millet, fruits, vegetables, etc. They don't need to eat too much at once; just enough to make their crop bulge is sufficient.
Macaws need to be taken out of their cages for exercise every day and get plenty of sunshine to keep them energetic. Macaws that lack exercise are prone to dying from obesity.
Macaws are tropical birds, and the ideal living temperature is no lower than 15 degrees Celsius. Therefore, it is important to keep them warm in winter, especially in northern regions, where even large birds like macaws can easily freeze to death due to low temperatures.
