In a dog meat market, a dog dealer placed a puppy on the ground and then walked away. Judging from the puppy's unsteady gait, it was probably only a little over a month old, looking around blankly at everything.
To it, everything around it was both unfamiliar and fraught with danger. A careless kick from a passerby, or a passing vehicle, could easily take the little guy's life. But what could it do? It could only lie helplessly on the ground, waiting for its fate. So why would dog dealers abandon this puppy that could have made money?
Judging from the missing fur on the puppy, it's likely suffering from some serious skin condition. Given its small size, it's not worth much money, and keeping it would only consume food.
Moreover, no one likes to buy a sick puppy, which is why it was abandoned by dog dealers and went from being a commercial dog to a stray. Seeing the little guy's pitiful state, the guy filming felt very sorry for it and finally decided to take the helpless puppy home to feed it.
Meanwhile, several puppies, also just a month old, appeared in the farmers' market. They were tied up with ropes and could only wander around curiously, observing everything. The puppies with the best appearance meant they could fetch a good price, and they were separated into cages.
Compared to dogs in dog meat markets or strays on the streets, their fate is arguably better, because the vast majority of people willing to pay to buy them keep them as pets or guard dogs, rather than as food in the winter.
According to incomplete statistics, there are an average of 40 million stray dogs in our country every year, the vast majority of whom are abandoned or lost from their owners.
If they're lucky, they'll be rescued by some grassroots organizations or shelters; if they're unlucky, they'll be sent to dog meat restaurants or suffer a miserable death on the streets.
Dogs, like humans, have feelings and emotions, sometimes even more so than humans. I truly hope that we humans can treat these little guys kindly.
