"Finding the owner is the best outcome. The old man came and cried, and the little dog jumped and danced when it saw its owner. It broke my heart to see it like that; I've had it for so many years. Thank you, Officer Liu, for your help, and thank you to the Lijin Public Security Bureau. The little dog had been on IV drips for two days, but last night it was eating and urinating normally. Thank you for the rescue, thank you for your trust."

This is a text message sent on the morning of July 9th by the owner of a pet hospital in Lijin County, Dongying City, Shandong Province, to Liu Dongyue, a police officer at the Lijin Police Station.

Behind the text message is the story of a lost puppy, from being rescued from drowning by the police to being taken to a pet hospital for treatment, and finally being reunited with its owner.

At 5:41 a.m. on July 7, the Lijin Police Station of the Lijin County Public Security Bureau in Dongying City, Shandong Province, received a report from a passerby who said that there were groaning sounds coming from Cuiyuan Lake and that he was afraid to go near it.

Upon receiving the report, police officer Liu Dongyue led his team to the scene with rescue equipment. It turned out that a dog was drowning about 1.5 meters from the shore. The dog was exhausted and only occasionally surfaced, barking, using reeds as cover. The dog had a collar, but no hooks were nearby. Liu Dongyue lay on the bank, while two colleagues pulled him by the feet, using his left hand to hold onto the reeds and his right hand to hold the dog's collar, thus pulling the dog to the surface.

Afterwards, Liu Dongyue and his comrades performed CPR on the dog for a few minutes. Seeing that the dog vomited up two mouthfuls of water and opened its eyes, they decided to take it to a veterinary hospital for treatment.

The pet hospital provided enthusiastic rescue.

Around 6 a.m. on July 7th, police officers arrived at the pet hospital in a patrol car. Because it was so early, the hospital was not yet open. The officers called the number posted on the signboard. The owner, who was still asleep, learned of the situation and quickly arrived at the hospital.

"When we arrived at the vet, the dog's temperature was only 33 degrees Celsius. The vet owner said a dog's normal temperature is around 38 degrees Celsius, and told us to keep busy. He said he could dry the dog's fur for free and that he had many friends on social media who could help find the dog's owner. That evening, I asked the vet how the dog was doing, and the owner said it had received adrenaline and was on an IV drip, and could sit up," Liu Dongyue recalled. The puppy then spent another day on IV fluids at the vet, gradually regaining its strength.

From July 7th to 9th, the owner of the pet hospital posted messages on his WeChat Moments for three consecutive days to ask the dog owner to come and claim it. The dog's owner learned from a neighbor that the dog had been treated at the hospital after drowning and had recovered.

On the morning of July 9th, around 7 a.m., the dog's owner called Liu Dongyue to express his gratitude and recount how the dog had been lost.

It is understood that the dog belonged to the woman's father-in-law, who had raised it for over ten years. After his passing, the woman wanted to bring her mother-in-law to live with her, including the dog. However, the dog went missing during the move. "It feels like we've suddenly lost two people in our family. We're very sad. Finding the dog is like finding a family member. Thank you so much!"

After confirming that the puppy had found its owner, Liu Dongyue sent a message to the pet hospital owner: "The dog's owner contacted me. I really didn't expect such a wonderful ending. The puppy and the old man are reunited, which is like finding a family again. Thank you for your kind rescue and for spreading the word!"

A heartwarming story, a heartwarming act of kindness, a beautiful ending—we look forward to more love being passed on among people.
