Recently, "Huihui," a stray dog at Fuzhou University, has become famous. The story of the stray dog's strenuous digging in the rainy night, leading to the combined efforts of many to pry open a slab of stone and rescue a trapped kitten, has touched countless netizens.
According to the blogger involved, @来来酱, at 9 p.m. on May 26, the students found the puppy agitated, barking wildly and digging a small hole. "It seemed very anxious, with scratches and bleeding on its nose and front legs."
The group decided to help the puppy pry open the stone slab. They found tools, plastic bags, gloves, etc., and worked together with it to dig. Halfway through, they heard a cat's meow. It turned out that a kitten was buried underneath.
After digging and moving stones, and after a period of rescue efforts, the kitten was successfully rescued around 10 p.m.
The puppy, panting heavily with its tongue lolling out, seemed happy and proud to see the kitten rescued. Afterwards, "Huihui" didn't want to leave; it sniffed around the area, as if checking for any other kittens.
Why was the kitten buried in the soil? According to the students' guesses, the kitten was probably born before the recent rains in Fuzhou. The new mother cat dug a hole in a corner to give birth, and then the rain caused mud and sand to accumulate, trapping the kitten.
The person involved, @AncientGreekKingWhoControlsDogs, responded in the comments section: It's probably because of the rain that the soil was loose. Without this puppy, the kitten would have just quietly died in the soil.
According to reports, the cow-colored dog in the video is named "Huihui," and is a stray dog that frequents the Qishan campus of Fuzhou University. There was previously a stray dog on campus named "Lailai," who was taken to a foster home by students during a long holiday, but it ran away and has not been found since. Recently, another stray dog entered the campus, and because its coat color is the same as "Lailai's," the students named it "Huihui."
On the evening of the 27th, the video of "Huihui" rescuing a cat went viral on social media, with over 30 million people praising the puppy. The puppy's search and rescue potential was recognized, and many fire department accounts invited people to adopt it.
People expressed their surprise and admiration: "A real Paw Patrol hero has done a great job," "It was still a stray itself, but it saved another life," "A kind and heroic little dog," "This is a dog hero."
It is reported that both the puppy and the kitten were taken to the vet that night. The kitten suffered some aftereffects from being buried, while the puppy had a skin disease. Both had old ailments and new injuries, but their conditions were relatively stable.
After the story spread online, many people expressed their willingness to adopt the dog or donate money. According to the blogger involved, after carefully screening potential adopters, both the stray dog and the kitten have found homes.
