Until today
The war between Russia and Ukraine has lasted for nearly a month.
According to incomplete statistics
More than 2 million people have already fled Ukraine.
And those who did not leave
Still suffering in the flames of war...
Just a few days ago
A 23-year-old girl named Daryna
He survived a near-death experience.
Daryna lives in Ukraine's second largest city.
Kharkiv
One evening last week
Russian troops attacked the building where she lived.
She and many other residents had to flee to the basement for refuge.
Daryna has no relatives in this city.
She was terrified.
She trembled and curled up on the ground.
I persisted like this for a full seven days.
Daryna said
Two of those days were very cold.
It was pitch black all around.
She only had a small amount of food.
But the gunfire outside continued unabated.
Russian forces launched 50 attacks in 24 hours.
This made her feel extremely desperate.
She didn't know how much longer the building could hold on.
Finally, she collapsed to the ground, completely limp.
I once thought I was about to die
And just then
A dog suddenly appeared in front of her.
This is a Pomeranian.
Seeing Daryna lying on the ground
The dog kept sniffing her.
And it made soft whimpering sounds.
Daryna heard the dog's voice.
He seemed to wake up instantly.
She hugged the dog tightly.
Silently shedding tears
later
The dog stayed by Daryna's side the whole time.
Daryna said
It was this dog that calmed her down.
Without it
She didn't know if she could make it through...
After temporary safety
Daryna wanted to take her dog with her when she evacuated.
And it was named Marcel
But the situation was critical.
Some people advised her not to bring her dog.
But she insisted on taking Marcel with her.
Daryna said
Marcel's owner has abandoned it.
But it saved me.
So now it's my turn to save it.
Daryna said
She never thought of it.
Their homes will be destroyed because of the war.
Her maternal grandparents were quite old.
Unable to leave home
And her 53-year-old father
Because within the conscription age range
They have now gone to the front lines.
His fate is unknown...
Daryna is now with Marcel
Arrival in Warsaw, Poland
He met up with his 17-year-old sister who was studying there.
See here
I really feel terrible.
The most pitiful people in war
Always ordinary people
We know there are still many innocent civilians.
I am experiencing the most painful moment of my life.
And what we can do
It seems all we can do is pray that the war ends soon.
I hope everyone can return home safely...
