At a bustling morning market, several elderly people were busy buying groceries, creating a peaceful and lively scene. However, a surprising scene unfolded: a woman stood in a corner of the market, holding a golden retriever on a leash. At first, everyone assumed she was simply walking her dog to buy groceries, so no one paid her any attention. But after a while, the woman started asking people if they wanted to buy the dog. It was then that people realized she was actually there to sell dogs.
Since most of the people shopping at the market were elderly, they weren't particularly interested in buying dogs. Around noon, an older man went to the market, and the woman selling dogs happened to be next to him. As he finished shopping and was about to leave, the woman asked, "Sir, would you like to buy a dog?" The man hadn't initially intended to buy a dog, but when he saw the puppy, he stopped and asked the woman how much the Golden Retriever was. The woman, assuming he wanted to buy the dog, said, "Sir, are you serious about buying it? If you are, I'll give you a sincere price, 600 yuan, you can take it."
The man didn't answer the woman's price offer. He then asked why the Golden Retriever was so thin; Golden Retrievers are usually quite robust, and this dog was so thin that its ribs were clearly visible. The woman, looking aggrieved, told the man, "It's mainly because it eats too much. I simply can't afford to feed it. Its appetite is enormous, even more than a person's." Hearing this, the man looked bewildered: "I know Golden Retrievers eat a lot; my son has owned one. Logically, if it eats a lot, your dog should be plump and healthy, but it's so thin. It doesn't look like a dog that eats a lot at all!"
The woman's words enraged the man. She said that because the dog ate so much, she stopped feeding it, only giving it water. She figured it was useless to keep it, and had initially considered killing it for meat, but since she was too scared, she planned to take it to the market to see if she could sell it for some money. Having owned dogs before, the man was furious when he heard how the woman was treating his pet: "How can you, a woman, be so heartless? No human being would do something so cruel! It's a dog; if it eats, it's healthy. It's like a person; it needs to eat three meals a day. Even if you only feed it once a day, you can't treat it like this!"
Upon hearing the man not only refuse to buy the dog but also verbally abuse her, the woman instantly jumped up in anger: "Are you going to buy it or not? If not, don't block my way from selling dogs! Don't think you can lecture me just because you look decent enough. It's my own dog, I can do whatever I want with it. What can you do to me? You really think you're someone important, bossing me around like that!" Several middle-aged women who were shopping nearby saw the two arguing and began to mediate. They kindly advised the woman that dogs shouldn't be raised like that; they're relied upon for guarding the house, and if they're not properly cared for, how will the dog have the strength to protect its owner?
The woman, assuming the older woman was siding with the man, retorted, "Are you all just bored and nosy? It's none of your business if I sell my dog." She finished her tirade and prepared to leave with the Golden Retriever. The man immediately stopped her. Thinking he was going to attack her, the woman yelled at him, demanding to know what he wanted. The man pulled 600 yuan from his pocket and shoved it into her hand, saying, "Didn't you say you were selling the dog? Don't say anything more. I don't think this dog will have a good ending with you. Here's the money, you can go, but you can keep the dog."
When the woman saw the man trying to buy the dog, she arrogantly refused to sell, saying she wouldn't sell it to him no matter how much he offered. The man was both angry and helpless. An older woman standing nearby couldn't stand it anymore and said, "Young lady, alright, alright, didn't you come to sell the dog? They didn't even haggle and just gave you the money, that's good enough. You've been standing there for ages, and now that the dog's sold, take the money and go home." After thinking for a moment, the woman probably agreed with the older woman, and handed the man the dog's leash, muttering, "Isn't it enough to just pay him back?"
After taking the dog, the man turned and left without giving the woman a kind look. The dog kept looking back at her as he led it away, even trying to break free of its leash with every step. This is the dog's loyalty; despite the woman's treatment, it showed no resentment towards its owner. The poor dog still doesn't know it has been sold. Fortunately, it escaped a heartless owner and found a kind and loving one. With the man's care, the dog will surely grow into a happy and chubby little dog.
