Solutions for turtles with swollen eyes that cannot open
If a baby turtle's eyes are swollen and it can't open them, it's usually due to poor water quality. Baby turtles are relatively fragile, so regular water changes are necessary to ensure clean water; otherwise, poor water quality can easily lead to illness.
For the turtle's eye condition, the owner can use chloramphenicol eye drops, which can be purchased at a nearby pharmacy. Apply a few drops to the turtle's eyes 3-5 times a day.
After administering the eye drops, the turtle should be kept dry on land until the medication is fully absorbed before placing it in the water. The water depth should also be carefully controlled, ensuring it does not exceed the lowest point of the turtle's carapace.
With consistent medication for about three days, the turtle's eyes should gradually recover. During this period, allow the turtle to bask in the sun for a short time each day. In the future, strengthen water quality management, maintain a stable water temperature, and prevent the turtle from contracting the disease again.
