Recently, a stray dog I'd never seen before appeared in our neighborhood. Its fur was disheveled, and it was limping around. My family carefully followed it and noticed that its hind leg was broken; it was dragging its hind leg as if in great pain. After following it through several buildings, my family felt sorry for it and tried to feed it some dog food, but it wouldn't approach. Instead, it became wary and kept backing away.
My family had to put the dog food on the ground and back up 5 meters. When the dog saw them back, it looked around for a long time before finally walking over to the food. When it got close to the food, it didn't eat immediately. Instead, it observed again to make sure my family didn't come any closer before it lowered its head to eat, occasionally looking up to check on the food.
Seeing its wariness, we guessed it must have been injured before, otherwise it wouldn't be so timid and fearful. So we took a picture of it and asked the nearby residents. Sure enough, some of the residents recognized the dog. It turned out it had an owner, and about a month ago, it was walking with its owner, but the owner hadn't put it on a leash. Suddenly, a car came from the opposite direction and accidentally ran over the dog's hind leg.
The owner communicated with the other party for a long time and finally compensated for the dog's medical expenses. Everyone assumed the owner had taken the dog to the vet, but a few days later, the dog reappeared as a stray in the neighborhood. It wandered outside during the day and sat downstairs at night, as if waiting for its owner to come out.
The aunt choked up as she spoke. This dog used to be very beautiful and affectionate; it was a mixed-breed Teddy. But ever since the car accident, the dog has become afraid of people. It used to jump up to its owner when it saw them, but now it just watches from a distance, too scared to approach.
Hearing this, my eyes welled up with tears. I don't know what the dog had gone through, but it once had its owner's love and a happy home. However, due to its owner's mistake, it was involved in a car accident and should have been receiving treatment at the hospital and recovering before returning home.
But now it has to wander the streets, dragging its injured hind leg, struggling to survive. My family and I really want to help it and hope to take it back home for treatment.
But the dog is very wary; as soon as it saw us approaching, it ran away immediately, even barking a few times. I don't know how to help it, but I don't want to give up. I want to keep feeding it every day and keep going near it every day. I believe that one day, it will realize that I mean it no harm.
