In the winter of 2013, the weather in the north was very cold, and the cold could freeze everything. That day, a pet owner was eating in the shed where he worked. The job of the pet owner did not require any skills, just guarding the shed. Suddenly someone called out in the shed, and the pet owner quickly put down his bowl to help.
When the pet owner finished what they were doing and picked up the food bowl again, they found it empty. Looking up, they saw a stray dog not far away with food scraps still stuck to its mouth!
Although the dog owner was a little angry, it was too cold that day, and he felt sorry for the dog, so he didn't make things difficult for it. Instead, he gave the dog the rest of his food with a wry smile.
From that point on, this stray dog and its owner formed an inseparable bond. Every afternoon at 3 o'clock sharp, the owner would go to work. Gradually, the dog would also arrive at the carport at 3 o'clock sharp.
Over time, the person and the dog became acquainted, and the owner named the dog Dahuang (Big Yellow).
Three years have passed in the blink of an eye. The owner has long since adopted Dahuang and often bathes it, even letting it lie on its own blanket. Dahuang is also very smart; it will bark immediately if a stranger enters the carport. The two have a deep bond and keep each other company.
But fate is unpredictable. In 2016, the pet owner suddenly felt unwell and went straight to the hospital. The examination revealed cancer, and the pet owner passed away 15 days later!
It happened so fast that the owner went to the hospital and never came out again, so he didn't get to say goodbye to Da Huang.
The owner has passed away, but Da Huang doesn't know! It still waits for its owner on their way to work every day at 3 pm, just like before!
About half a year later, everyone in the neighborhood knew about Dahuang and that Dahuang was waiting for its owner. Touched by Dahuang's loyalty, everyone started to bring it food on their own.
Later, the community renovated and demolished the carport. Everyone thought that after the carport was demolished, Da Huang would no longer wait for its owner. But Da Huang did not. After the carport was demolished, Da Huang seemed even more anxious. Every day, it would wait on the road that its owner had to take to work. As long as it saw someone who looked like its owner, it would run up to them immediately, but every time it would return disappointed!
For the past five years, Da Huang has suffered many setbacks while waiting for its owner. One day, it spotted someone who looked very much like its owner, but the person was riding an electric scooter. Da Huang immediately chased after the person. When the residents of the community realized that Da Huang was missing, they quickly organized a search.
When Dahuang was found, it was in a nearby dog meat restaurant. Coincidentally, an aunt from the neighborhood worked at the restaurant, and she redeemed Dahuang for 20 yuan.
After being rescued from the dog meat restaurant, Da Huang seemed to be frightened. Since then, it has never left the neighborhood, but it still waits for its owner at the intersection every day at 3 o'clock!
Big Yellow is so pitiful. Many people in the neighborhood want to adopt it, but no matter where they take it, Big Yellow always returns to the north gate of the neighborhood (the old bike shed). Everyone knows that Big Yellow is waiting for its owner and refuses to be adopted. So, kind-hearted people in the neighborhood built a doghouse for Big Yellow at the north gate.
Currently, Dahuang is still waiting and searching every day. The residents of the community all know Dahuang's story. They say that Dahuang is a neighbor and a family member, and they will take responsibility for Dahuang's safety and food.
I can't imagine how it persevered for five years, searching again and again only to be met with disappointment each time.
But Dahuang's will was too strong. Even though it had only received disappointment over the past five years, it could not shake its determination in the slightest. Perhaps it would stay until the day it closed its eyes, just like Hachiko, the loyal dog!
I have no right to comment on Dahuang's situation, but Dahuang made me realize that loyalty is more important than one's own life in a dog's eyes.
